Having twice escaped the clutches of the noise-sensitive alien invaders, the Abbott family’s saga is set to continue with the forthcoming threequel, stomping to theaters in 2027. Yes, after a spin-off detour with A Quiet Place: Day One in 2024, the beloved survival horror film series is coming back to the family that started it all, with stars Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds expected to return. In addition, Blunt’s husband and the star/writer/director of the first two installments, John Krasinski, is also returning to helm the film but do we have A Quiet Place 4 release date?
When A Quiet Place crawled into cinemas back in 2018, nobody expected a low-budget, near-silent horror film about sound-hunting aliens to roar its way to over $340 million worldwide. But that’s exactly what it did. John Krasinski’s directorial brainchild turned minimal dialogue into maximum tension — and audiences were hooked. The film also impressed critics and became one of the most decorated films of that year. Blunt won her first Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor, while the film nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Sound Editing – poetically fitting for a movie about the absence of sound. It broke convention for the horror genre, which, up until that point, was often relegated to popcorn fares unworthy of awards conversation.
The sequel, 2021’s A Quiet Place Part II, arrived in the middle of the pandemic and saved struggling theaters, earning a healthy $297 million gross despite heavy social restrictions all over the world. A Quiet Place began in 2018 with a simple but ingenious premise: a post-apocalyptic world overrun by blind alien predators that hunt anything making a noise louder than a whisper. The Abbott family — dad Lee (Krasinski), mom Evelyn (Blunt), deaf eldest daughter Regan (Simmonds), and middle child Marcus (Jupe) — had to live their lives in utter silence, communicating only through sign language, while grieving the loss of their youngest in the opening minutes that left moviegoers emotionally wrecked before the popcorn even settled.
Its 2021 sequel picked up immediately after the events of the first film, expanding the world beyond the Abbott farmhouse. With Lee dead, Evelyn (Blunt) took her three kids to venture into the outside world, discovering other survivors — including Emmett, played by , a grief-hardened loner who reluctantly helps them fight back. The film expanded the apocalyptic world they’re living in and introduced survivors’ networks all over the country, mounting resistance against the creatures.
Before A Quiet Place Part III could move forward, Krasinski and took a detour into spinoff territory with 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One. Directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), the film rewound the timeline to the very beginning of the alien invasion — in New York City, of all places.
In it, Lupita Nyong’o plays a terminally ill woman striving to fulfill her final wish in a chaotic New York overrun by monsters. She meets a depressed young man, played by Joseph Quinn, who becomes her companion. Together, they’re thrown into a story of urban survival with a surprisingly emotional rumination on life’s preciousness. Lore-wise, it introduced audiences to the origin of the creatures and a whole slew of other survivors, including one connected directly to the main storyline:
Djimon Hounsou’s character, who is the leader of the island refugee community, is first seen in Part II. That connection wasn’t accidental. According to Krasinski, these overlapping threads were meant to “expand the mythology while keeping the emotional core intact.”
And if the ending of Day One and Part II are anything to go by, that mythology is far from finished. The final moments of Part II showed Regan broadcasting a high-frequency signal — lethal to the creatures — to other survivors. Meanwhile, Day One’s closing hinted at how these pockets of safety may be fleeting. In short: humanity might finally have a fighting chance, but the monsters aren’t done listening.

Who Will Come Back?
Paramount hasn’t officially announced the cast yet, but fans widely expect Emily Blunt to return as Evelyn, joined by Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe as her children.” Their performances have become the emotional anchor of the franchise, especially Simmonds, whose real-life deafness has given her role added authenticity and power.
As for Cillian Murphy’s Emmett, fans are hopeful. His character arc in Part II ended with redemption and survival — always good signs in this franchise — and Murphy himself has expressed interest in returning. During promotion for Oppenheimer, he said in a Collider interview that he’d “absolutely love” to come back, noting that “it was one of the most unique shooting experiences I’ve ever had.”
And then there’s Quinn, who joined the universe through Day One. When if he’d be interested in returning, the Fantastic Four star said:
“I love that world. I’m so grateful to John for letting me come on board and walk among brilliant minds, obviously. Taking on a mantle of that franchise and doing something very interesting and brilliant. I think there was so much of his sensitivity, and his writing is just so, in the few words we do say, there’s such weight in it. So, yeah, who knows what will happen.”
Given how interconnected the stories are becoming, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to imagine Quinn’s character crossing paths with the Abbotts in A Quiet Place III — perhaps as one of the growing network of survivors spreading Regan’s discovery.

How It’s Going
The film’s long journey to production has been, fittingly, pretty quiet. Chatter about A Quiet Place Part III only began intensifying this year, with Krasinski returning as writer and director. Krasinski’s busy schedule, driven by the first film’s success, delayed the project for quite some time. Between his directing duties on IF (2024), his producing work, and the occasional acting gig, the multi-hyphenate star’s schedule kept hindering his commitment to the project.
Producer Brad Fuller explained the holdup in an in March this year:
“We’re starting to put it together right now. When we made the first one, John didn’t have a lot on his plate. He had just come off The Office, and he wanted to be a director. Now, he’s so in demand, and it’s hard to get him. He’s making a movie now, so as soon as he finishes that, hopefully, he will turn his attention to [A Quiet Place 3].”
