Super Bowl 60 Halftime Firestorm: NFL Fans Threaten Boycott Over Bad Bunny, Demand an ‘American’ Artist Instead of Puerto Rican Superstar Whose Spanish-Language Hits Are Sparking Controversy Across Social Media

Bad Bunny to Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show 2026: “This is for my people, my culture, and our history”
The stage is set for a historic moment in music and sports. On Sunday, September 28, the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced that global superstar Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2026. The announcement came during halftime at the Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers matchup at AT&T Stadium in Texas, electrifying fans across the world.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, wasted no time sharing his excitement. In a heartfelt Instagram video, he sits atop a goalpost on a sunlit beach, reflecting on the significance of this milestone.
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself,” he wrote. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… This is for my people, my culture, and our history. Go tell your grandma—we’re going to be the SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW.”
Roc Nation founder and chairman Jay-Z praised the decision, saying,
“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
The 2026 Super Bowl will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8, 2026.

A Banner Year for Bad Bunny
2025 has already been a landmark year for Bad Bunny. In January, he released his sixth solo studio album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” a heartfelt tribute to his roots and Puerto Rico. The album was met with rave reviews from critics and fans alike, solidifying his place as one of music’s most influential voices.
In July, Bad Bunny hosted a spectacular 30-night residency at El Choli arena in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The residency, titled “No Me Quiero Ir De Aqui” (“I Don’t Want to Leave Here”), drew massive crowds and culminated in a final show streamed worldwide via Amazon Music on September 21.
And the momentum doesn’t stop there. The “MONACO” singer is gearing up for a global tour, kicking off November 21 at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in the Dominican Republic. He’ll perform across South America until February 21, 2026, before taking his show to Asia and Europe, with the grand finale slated for July 22 in Brussels, Belgium.
A Statement Tour—And a Statement Performance
Bad Bunny’s world tour notably skips North America this time—a decision he explained in a candid interview with i-D magazine.
“There was the issue of—like, f*cking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
He added that while previous North American shows were “magnificent,” the current climate made it impossible to include the region on this tour.
Yet, as fate would have it, Bad Bunny will return to the U.S. for one of the biggest stages in entertainment—the Super Bowl Halftime Show—turning his absence into a triumphant comeback.
With his powerful voice, cultural pride, and boundary-breaking artistry, Bad Bunny’s upcoming Super Bowl performance promises to be an unforgettable celebration for his people, his culture, and for music fans worldwide.
